September 1
First Fridays Goes Fellini with Orchestra Nostalgico
Live performance by Orchestra Nostalgico
Featured cocktail: Prosecco Per Favore

In honor of the retrospective of Federico Fellini's films, Tutto Fellini, the Modern proudly presents composer/singer/guitarist Steve Kirk and the San Francisco–based Orchestra Nostalgico. Critically acclaimed, the Orchestra specializes in jazzy arrangements of Nino Rota's capricious and complex scores from Fellini's finest films. Dancing shoes are mandatory!

From its birth in San Francisco's swanky Bruno's nightclub, the nine-piece Orchestra Nostalgico has received rave reviews for its blend of faithful and eclectic interpretations lovingly drawn from the Golden Age of film music. The Orchestra was originally commissioned to bring the classic cinematic compositions of Nino Rota – from Fellini's La dolce vita, 8 1/2, and Amarcord, as well as Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather trilogy – to the eager ears of San Francisco's young hipsters. Orchestra Nostalgico features musicians Steve Kirk, Myles Boisen, Tom Yoder, Sheldon Brown, and Chris Grady.

October 6
Modern O-tsukimi, Moon Viewing

"Moon River," "Blue Moon," "Fly Me to the Moon" . . . we'll welcome the moon with the innovative jazz sounds of John Giordano Jr. and friends, and maybe a bit of poetry as well!

November 3
Live performance by Jackson and Price
Featured cocktail: Autumn Haze

Veteran musicmakers Greg Jackson and Michael H. Price team up with their two guitars and tight harmonies to create jazz, blues, ballads, bluegrass, and everything in between.
